It strikes me more as the overconfidence of an opponent who believes they've already won. And judging from the reactions to that announcement, they may be right.
I'm not convinced it wasn't just a scare tactic to incite panic and convince us to turn on each other. It works well in war, if used right. And it looked to me like a lot of them gave the reaction they wanted.
There were enough people questioning it that I feel some sense of hope that no one here actually believes it's the only way to get through this, but. . .
[a sharp exhale]
Someone is going to die this weekend nevertheless.
[and he doesn't say that to bring the mood down, he just. . . knows. that it'll happen, because humans are humans. especially after 45 announced the motive]
They may question it openly because it makes sense to, but many humans will still act on fear, despite what logic tells them. That's how it's always been.
[ ...funnily enough, kara doesn't quite agree. he simply watches akira for a moment before speaking up. ]
If the directors are to be believed, that's just the abilities they had to offer, through no ill will of their own. They insisted, when this started, that we could all find benevolent uses for them.
But with the powers we were given, and now this fourth voice... I do think there's a good chance that this was set up deliberately. The directors themselves could be dealing with some sort of coercion, same as us, or they might be getting manipulated without their knowledge... or they're lying to us.
I know. It'll probably stay that way for another week or so, if it goes anything last time. So we exhaust all other options until we can do more, and try to keep casualties as low as possible.
[ which is... also easier said than done, but. there has to be some way to break the cycle. ]
Then it's probably just some psychological tactic to throw you all off. The more affected you are by it, the more likely you'll play into their hands - just like the supposed "winner takes all" condition.
[ his voice lowers a moment later, thrumming with anger. ]
And with these powers, not even being in complete control of your emotions will matter.
[ residuals this, residuals that - all of it is the fault of those who brought here against their wills, into a game designed to rip everything they'd struggled to win from them. it's cruel, from a group of beings that claim benevolence. ]
With the way that they've designed this, it seems like we aren't supposed to do that. Punishing us for sharing these powers, our teams, or even having a blank list of abilities without their roles or names attached, and then giving us those conditions for winning...
[ he shakes his head. ]
There is no way we can work within those rules and still trust each other.

[hm]
I do think there are things they can't say. Many things.

So we need to find out who, or what, is forcing their hands.

But our only options are to keep asking questions and investigate as much of this camp as possible. That includes those locked rooms, and the portal.
That was where you and Ash came from, right? One of you should check it out, to se if anything has changed.

I already did, with Beau.
The only thing that's really changed is that the house is definitely not alive anymore. [WHICH, GOOD RIDDANCE] Everything else seems to be the same.

[it's okay they can stew in anger together]
And considering I know what it feels like to not be in complete control of how I feel, that's why we'll all have to look after each other.
