[She's doing her rounds, given the sheer amount of people that have been hurt. Even with the healing item from Brilith taking care of what remained of Akira's leg, Luna still checks up on him several times during the day, monitoring his pain and hoping against hopes he doesn't develop an infection over everything that had happened.
It's when she slides into the infirmary later in the day that she seems a little more... serious in tone. She's checking him as usual, but something obviously weighs on her mind.
She unloops the infirmary stethoscope from her neck as she finishes up her examination, lips pursed in thought.]
[Akira spends the entire day resting in the infirmary, relying on other people to bring him blankets and food and water. don't get him wrong; he doesn't want to stay cooped up in here forever!1 but 24 hours of immobility in order to recuperate is probably a wise idea. he can force himself to walk (with a crutch, of course) tomorrow]
[. . .]
[tomorrow. . . when someone will likely still be killed, regardless of the progress they've been making on solving the mansion's mysteries]
[maybe he shouldn't think about that]
[for now. . . people are fussing, and Akira isn't going to stop them from fussing, even if a part of it makes him feel strange. he is so used to being on the other side of things]
Hn?
[when Luna finishes her examination, Akira draws a blanket loosely around his shoulders and gives her a curious look]
[that comes out a bit more bewildered than he intended— no. actually, it sounds just as incredulous as he intended for it to be. he's studying her expression carefully, noting how closed off it seems, and not in her usual doctor-patient kind of way]
[it isn't that he doesn't trust her; he does, and deeply so, and perhaps that's the reason why he doesn't immediately turn her down. but he opens his mouth to say something, features cut with a deep, concerned frown, before he shuts it again and furrows his brows even more]
[. . .]
[what is she planning. . .? and why can't she tell him what it is. . .?]
. . . is it safe?
[???]
I mean, I-- [his gaze flickers down to the missing portion of his leg, features twisting as he remembers the circumstances around its loss] I lost a lot of blood today. How much do you need?
[oh no. . . he hadn't meant to make her feel guilty, or to even turn her down. even if her request is suspicious, even if it gives him cause for concern. . .]
[She'll move to a side cabinet, where a small collection of syringes and glass vials have been set aside, apart from their regular storage.
BLOODWORK PREP AHOY i sure hope you liked tourniquet because you are getting another one.]
I promise, I'll explain when I can. Just...
...
Remember that anyone, including myself, might be something they're not right now. Even if they change... I want to believe their memories are still there. They're still themselves.
I... I would rather be suspicious of me than for this idea to go wasted due to my own foolishness.
[okay. . . well. with that response in mind? he twists a bit to face her, reaching out to her with his free arm, hand resting on her shoulder. sorry for interrupting that bloodwork prepping but THIS IS IMPORTANT]
[and then, with one hand braced on her shoulder. . . he pushes himself up, arm sliding behind her neck to draw her towards him in the most awkward hug that still somehow manages to be extremely tender and gentle]
[As caught up in her task as she is, him reaching out to touch her is an odd surprise, even more so when he pushes up and...
...
Oh. This is...
...]
...Akira? I...
[...
It's almost frightening, how comfortable his embrace already feels to her, and yet still carry an odd sort of fear, an uncertain emotion that knots her throat and makes processes run so fast that she can hardly think.
...
Her tension under his arm slowly unravels, the needle put aside so that she can slip her arms around him, forehead resting against his shoulder.]
[he can only hug her with one arm, since the other is no effectively pinned at his side, but. . . this is enough. it says for him what words cannot, conveys emotions that can't yet be described]
[he gives her a gentle squeeze, and doesn't yet pull away, even as he mumbles]
. . . I want to believe that they're still themselves, too.
That underneath everything, they're still the people we know and trust. [. . .] So whatever you're doing, whatever experiment you're trying-- I hope it works.
[because he does believe that whatever plan she's concocted that requires the usage of his blood will be for the good of everyone here. in some form or fashion]
[...She'll give a nod against his shoulder, humming softly, the weight of her head a little heaver against the crook of his neck as she relaxes.]
I don't doubt it at all. When Hunter was caught... I spoke with Beau for a little while. She said that she was still able to feel Hunter, the real Hunter, even after he turned... he was still scared and guilty and unable to fight.
They're still people. Just... not in control of themselves as a whole anymore.
...
I don't know if what I have planned will be anything like what happened with Hunter. I... I can't promise that. I'm sorry. I wish I could. But...
At... at the very least... it might keep one less innocent person from having to die.
[Akira draws back from the hug, though he doesn't go far and his hand remains resting against her shoulder]
Maybe it isn't the same as what happened with Hunter.
[although Akira would kill for another antidote. well. . . not literally kill, but it would suck to have to properly execute someone for killing as a monster this week when they managed to save someone last week]
But every little thing helps. No matter how small.
WEEK THREE - THURSDAY
It's when she slides into the infirmary later in the day that she seems a little more... serious in tone. She's checking him as usual, but something obviously weighs on her mind.
She unloops the infirmary stethoscope from her neck as she finishes up her examination, lips pursed in thought.]
Akira... Could I ask you something?

Of course. . . what is it?

The emotion of her expression is hard to place - not quite the emotionless mask of a machine, but definitely closed off in thought.]
I have a request.
There are syringes available here. Would... um... would I be able to take a sample of your blood?
no subject
What?
[that comes out a bit more bewildered than he intended— no. actually, it sounds just as incredulous as he intended for it to be. he's studying her expression carefully, noting how closed off it seems, and not in her usual doctor-patient kind of way]
Why? Do you need to test it for some reason—?
no subject
She shakes her head, her smile calm but deeply apologetic.]
...I'm sorry. I... I can't tell you why right now.
It's related to the curfew tonight.

...Not very much. I... can ask someone else for more.
I just know I can trust you. So... I wanted to ask you first.
no subject
[he trusts her. doesn't he? truly and deeply]
It's okay.
[he lifts his head up a bit, before nodding]
I trust you, too.
So take what you need.
no subject
Thank you.
