There's a little hum of agreement - both in response to Akira's suspicion and to his reaction. The Wei Wuxian of this world may have a shady past, as could be expected of a former mafioso, but there are still very clear lines in the sand.]
Not only that, but targeting people on neutral territory, and more than once in just a week? It's not a good sign. These are cruel and bold people.
[People who clearly don't care about human life, or even about keeping up appearances. People who may not be afraid of getting caught.]
[Akira wrinkles his nose at that, folding his arms to rest them against the counter of the bar as he takes a contemplative moment to himself]
Acting on neutral territory makes it less likely they'll attract the ire of the Mori or Xian Le families, right?
[he gives Wei Wuxian a glance to see if he agrees. would the Mori or Xian Le family heads get angry if they knew someone was kidnapping folks on neutral territory. . .?]
It's a lot stupider and more risky to go kidnapping people from Eastside or Westside, where the Mori and Xian Le networks are a lot stronger.
[He seems to be considering Akira's reasoning, tapping his fingers against his chin.]
Mm... Well, you're not wrong about that. They'd be caught much faster that way, trying to pull those stunts right under the nose of one of the family heads. [Who are both certainly fiercely protective of their people.] On the other hand, this is neutral territory for a reason. Dragging that kind of crime here - it's dragging all of Middleton into it by proxy. We're supposed to be a place anyone can go to without concern, you know?
[As a Middleton resident himself, and one responsible for so many people, he's quite reasonably Very Concerned about this potential shift and what it means for their continued state of neutrality.]

[clearly the perpetrator must not care that much about the peace cultivated in Middleton. and in Akira's opinion, someone like that shouldn't be allowed to wander about freely to commit their crimes]
