Well, as Sanji pointed out, they did not helpfully compile an FAQ, so the directors are already more proactive in that regard.
[he shrugs.]
Their lives had sucked, so we were sympathetic to both of them by the end. They weren't malicious, but they weren't necessarily above screwing us over either. Especially since, uh, they hated each other and we were the pawns in their convoluted chess game that had seriously needed to be over by that point.
[a wry smile]
So to quote a certain someone, they were tired and doing their best? Whether that was in our best interests... well, sometimes, sometimes not. Also depended on exactly which host.
Well, I don't have a reason to actively distrust them yet, though I wouldn't be shocked if they betray us or were lying the entire time—but I expect that of most people, so it's nothing personal to them.
For now, with what we know... I imagine that they want us out of their home so they can go back to their lives, and we also want to get out of here and back to our lives, so our interests align. I don't expect them to go above and beyond for our sakes, but getting along presumably costs nothing, so from their perspective, why not?
[that's a pretty fair analysis in Akira's book. far more generous than he's heard from most other people, that's for sure. he looks down at the note, humming thoughtfully as his gaze lingers on those words-- You're heading in the right direction.]
And Pinkie?
[he looks up again, expression just as curious as before]
What do you think of them? Do you believe they're really just a remnant?
I think there's more than what the Directors are telling us, especially given the mystery of the Mask Guy. What are they?
[idly, he fiddles with the ends of his hair.]
Or Pink could be unrelated. Whatever. Though if we're assuming that the directors aren't lying, why should we necessarily believe their info is accurate and complete? According to them, they were unaware until the portal glitch happened, and then they just Knew, right? Not really inspiring confidence in their knowledge base there.
[Akira flips the note between his fingers a few times in idle thought, before he dips the paper back into his pocket and responds with all the honesty he can muster]
I'll be honest. I think the directors are lying to us.
[ah]
But I think it's either because they don't know everything, they can't share everything, or because they believe we're better off not knowing. That last one is a bullshit reason, as we all know, but that doesn't change that it still comes with good intentions.
Still. . . I trust that they're on our side. Even if we need to muddle our way through without relying on them too much.
It's possible. Although, to be blunt, I think you're a little biased in that it would make things easier for us if Pink is a full-fledged entity rather than a residual, so it's preferable to believe.

Do you think the three hosts here have our best interests in mind?

You're not wrong.
[at least he acknowledges it]
But I'm coming from the place where we got to kill the house responsible for torturing us, so. . .
[maybe it's wishful thinking, but a guy can dream]
