[a deep breath in, a slow exhale out. . . and he presses the card against Minato's chest, directly over his heart. the motion is more symbolic than anything else, but it feels. . . right, as he utters the words--]
I wish to change the hearts of humanity, so they stop crying out to Nyx, wishing for death.
. . . so that there is no more need for Arisato Minato's soul to act as the seal between humanity and its harbinger of the end.
[ there isn't anything groundbreaking. The sky doesn't open up, the world doesn't shake. But the card does disappear in a shower of light that glitters, and a moment later, Minato feels... something.
It'd be hard to describe in words, but slowly, he lifts his hand and curls it over Akira's over his heart, eyes widening at Akira.
Like for the first time in a very long time... his soul is where it belongs. ]
[it's hard for Akira to conceptualize what the difference might be, since he isn't the one who gave up his soul to seal away a bloodthirsty god. . . but Minato sounds so sure, so uncertainly hopeful, that he has no choice but to believe it, right?]
Minato is scooped up so suddenly he can only blink, startled--but then he wraps his arms around Akira in response as he's spun around, and it startles a laugh out of him in response. ]
[Minato's laugh is contagious, because soon very similar laughter is tumbling from Akira's lips as he continues to spin Minato around, a pure display of joy and happiness. but eventually. . . that gentle twirling comes to a halt, and Akira lowers Minato back to his feet again, leaning forward to press their foreheads together as he mutters--]
[ Minato's heart feels so, so full in this moment, and while he himself isn't sure he deserves to have this many miracles in his life... he's not about to let any of it go.
He's just too happy to finally have it. ]
I love you so much too. Thank you... thank you for always believing in our future.
[ for carrying this forward to the bitter end, and being right. ]
[mmm. . . now that Akira thinks about it. . . there's no way his parents would allow Minato to live with them, would they. . .? and. . . how would they even feel about Minato, the love of Akira's life, being-- well. . .]
[. . .]
[a complicated look crosses Akira's expression, gaze flickering down for a moment. it feels stupid, for them to have come this far, only for him to suddenly face the obstacles of reality, which feel so much more daunting]
[ ... oh dear. Minato is plenty familiar with that expression. That's 100% the "reality has sunk in" face. He's quiet for a moment in response, before he just quietly reaches out to take Akira's hand in his own. ]
Of course we will.
We've come this far, haven't we...? I'm sure... no matter what, we can figure out the rest.
[the expression of someone who realizes he'll have to somehow appeal to parents who sent him away during the worst time of his life. . . lmao. but at the same time, the way Minato's fingers lace with his own, warm and solid, absolutely helps. some of the tension melts from Akira's shoulders as he lifts his gaze and forces out a weak smile]
[once upon a time, Akira might have protested that. . . might have insisted that he could handle it on his own, no matter how difficult the burden. but now. . .]
[his eyes slip shut again, and his smile doesn't fade]

Quietly, he drags in a breath, tilting his head into Akira's touch. ]
... Just like you promised... you found a way to save me after all. Without putting the world in danger.
no subject
I don't think I "found" it as much as it fell into my lap. I didn't think these wishes would actually work. Part of me still doesn't think it will.
[he holds the card up though, examining it underneath the light of the morning sun]
But. . . well.
It's worth a try, right?
no subject
... It is.
I believe in miracles, Akira.
I believe in our future together, too. So let's... give it a try.

I wish to change the hearts of humanity, so they stop crying out to Nyx, wishing for death.

[Akira isn't sure what he expected, but it certainly wasn't for anything visible to happen. but the recognition on Minato's features speaks volumes]
. . . you can tell?
[did it work??]
no subject
[ Minato's voice is shaky, but it's slowly sinking in as he meets Akira's eyes with his own stunned expression. ]
I feel... I feel different. Like--before...
[ before everything. ]
1/2
[it's hard for Akira to conceptualize what the difference might be, since he isn't the one who gave up his soul to seal away a bloodthirsty god. . . but Minato sounds so sure, so uncertainly hopeful, that he has no choice but to believe it, right?]

H. . . hah. . .
[in one swooping motion, he gathers Minato into both of his arms, lifts him clear off of the ground, and just-- swings him around. AS ONE DOES]
no subject
adorable.

I love you so much, Minato.
[what a sap]
This is everything you've ever deserved.

[he nuzzles his nose against Minato's. . . 'cause it's cute, and he's feeling affectionate]
As if I'd ever let things be any other way.
no subject
... Just because you were so sure doesn't mean...
[ ...
Well.
It's fine, he supposes, to leave it at that.
... wait. ]
Did... you say something about living with you? Does that mean in Yongen-Jaya?
no subject
[. . .]
[but also. . . there's. . . a notable pause at that]
Mmm. . . [quietly] No.
I went back to live with my parents when the probation ended, so. . .
[he's not in Tokyo anymore]
no subject
[ that's a little bit of a surprise, but Minato just blinks, tilting his head. ]
Well... you know I'll follow you anywhere, so...
[ it doesn't matter where in Japan they are. ]
no subject
[. . .]
[a complicated look crosses Akira's expression, gaze flickering down for a moment. it feels stupid, for them to have come this far, only for him to suddenly face the obstacles of reality, which feel so much more daunting]
. . . right.
[A BREATH]
We'll figure it out.
no subject
Of course we will.
We've come this far, haven't we...? I'm sure... no matter what, we can figure out the rest.
no subject
Yeah. Of course.
Where there's a will, there's a way, right?
no subject
[ Minato's learned this firsthand. But he just squeezes Akira's hands in his own, expression soft. ]
But this one won't be all on your shoulders. I'll help too, in whatever ways I can.
no subject
[his eyes slip shut again, and his smile doesn't fade]
I know you will.
. . . thanks.
no subject
... We should finish saying our farewells. And then... we've got a new life to prepare for, right?
no subject
Yeah. Though. . . it's not like we're in a rush.
We can take our time seeing everyone off before we go.
no subject
[ Minato nods simply at that, lingering for a moment longer close to Akira... before he finally sighs. ]
... Okay.
[ he pulls back. ]
I want to catch everyone before they leave. But--I'll be back soon, okay?
no subject
[drawing back as well, equally as reluctant]
I'll meet you near the station later. When everything is final.
