[ Rice in the bowls, and then the beef on top, and some ginger and...!! ]

Dinner's ready. Let's go sit down, okay?

[Akira can't quite tell if that was on purpose or not BUT HE THINKS. . . IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN. . . AHEM]

[clears his throat and scuffs at the ground with his toes]

At the bar? I can get us some milkshakes to go with those beef bowls.

[ Ooooh...!! ]

Milkshakes sound great. I'll put these there, then, while you get them.

[ and grab Akira's gift for him. ]

[waggles his fingers at Minato!! then goes fetch them both some good chocolate milkshakes :9]

Minato will set their beef bowls in front of their places at the counter, and then go fetch Akira's present, setting that next to his place. ]

[THAT PRESENT. . .! AKIRA CAME EMPTY HANDED!!!! but he tries not to think about that fact as he slides Minato a freshly made milkshake and slips into a barstool in front of one steaming bowl of beef]

If it's not, you have to let me know. I don't care about first date etiquette. I want it to be a meal you can enjoy.

[lightly and playfully elbows Minato before tucking into the beef bowl. and judging by the way he smiles through eating it, it is, in fact, super delicious!!!]

[ PLEASED!! Minato is pleased as punch as he finally, finally tucks into his own beef bowl as well, once he's sure that Akira's enjoying his. ]

[humming happily as he eats, though in between bites--]

I feel like one of the great benefits of knowing you is the way you're always filling my stomach.

Where'd you learn how to cook, anyway?

[ he's quiet for a moment. Because he doesn't really want to bring down the mood when they're finally on a date.

So ultimately, what he says is: ]

I just picked it up here and there. I'm not great at it or anything, but... it was useful for me to be able to follow a recipe.

[survivaltricks]

[dates are for getting to know each other!! Akira wouldn't mind!!]

[it's the brief pause that tips him off, and with a tilt of his head he regards Minato with a quiet, searching look. . . but he also doesn't pry, because it's Minato's prerogative if he wants to open those gates right now or not]

[he decides to keep the tone light]

I first learned when I moved to Tokyo, and Boss taught me how to make curry. But I really got some practice in this past summer, when my teammates and I went on a road trip across Japan.

[ This is a topic he'd much rather learn about anyway, to be honest. So he perks up a bit. ]

Oh? You were learning how to cook while on a road trip?

Mmm. What's the point of traveling across Japan if you're not learning how to make regional dishes on your way through, right?

That's definitely true... then I'm pretty sure your cooking skills could blow mine right out of the water.

That's not it-- I just know what my cooking tastes like compared to yours.

[wags his brows as he takes another bite of his beef bowl!!]

And yours blows mine out of the water.

I don't believe you. I know that I can cook okay, especially with stuff where I know the recipe...

But I bet you can make lots more things.

[TAKES ANOTHER BITE OF BEEF BOWL]

Cook for me next date...? We don't have to keep arguing over this, but I still want to taste some of your food.

Consider it a promise. You still need to try the world famous Leblanc curry, anyway.
