... Maybe I'm overthinking it. But because this place is the way it is... [Velvet room adjacent and all] ... well, it's hard not to see the resemblance.
Mmm. And to keep in mind as things continue to unfold.
[and out of the bush pops another zombie!! with a few friends!! these guys are bigger and more muscular than the ones they've been fighting thus far. perhaps they are also less squishy?]
[Akira is right behind him! though he doesn't bolt forward like Minato does. . . if only because he's grabbing Ongyo-Ki from the depths of his psyche, sending the Person about to slice through the nearest zombie with an arc of his blade]
[. . .]
[if Minato notices, in between whacking zombies with his rake, Akira's breathing is getting a little heavier]
[Ongyo-Ki vanishes as the zombie goes down, and Akira sucks in a sharp breath, knuckles pressed against his mouth]
Nah. I'm okay. We just took a break--
[for. . . whatever definition of "break"]
[but either way, he's cut off by another zombie literally LAUNCHING itself at Akira from behind, an enemy that he doesn't notice until it's too late. the creature bowls into him, and with a surprised cry, Akira goes down, face first into the dirt]
[And naturally, immediately? Minato swings his rake to knock the zombie he's facing back further, turning on his heel to dive forward towards Akira.
He leverages the end of the rake between Akira and the zombie pinning him down, and with all of his strength? He shoves the other end down.
It flings the zombie away like a catapult, but Minato doesn't have time to rest on his laurels. Instead, he immediately whirls on his heel again, facing the zombies in front of them.]
[just as quickly as it slammed into him, the pressure is relieved from Akira's back, and instinct seems him popping back up onto his knees within milliseconds. his gaze snaps up to find the flat plane of Minato's back standing in front of him, guarding him from the rest of the zombies shuffling ahead]
[. . .]
[another exhale. Akira plays his fingers against the ground]
[well. this isn't an argument he's winning. and it's. . . a little strange, being on this side of things. isn't he usually the one barking out orders. . .?]
[another laugh, and he tightens his grip on the gardening shears, mustering up the last bits of his energy to vault forward and drive the sharp end into the nearest zombie's face, right between the eyes]
[his lack of a verbal response is probably acquiescence enough]
[It is, and Minato just nods to himself approvingly--before he follows suit, backing Akira up and watching his back in equal measure as they take on the remainder of the zombies surrounding them.
It's gross, but with enough effort, they manage to squish their way to victory.]
[the zombies, though bigger and badder than the last group, still go down fairly easily. but by the time the crowd is cleared, Akira is leaning his shoulder against a tree as he heaves in deep breath after breath]
What I wouldn't give for some good coffee right about now. . .
. . . are we sure the area is secure? That there's no one out there who needs our help?
[he doesn't like the idea of just, you know, heading inside and taking a break when someone might be in trouble? but then again, they still haven't met anyone else, so. . . it's probably fine?]

And quietly:]
"The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed."
The numbers--they correspond to everything... up until Death.
no subject
And up until today, both hands were pointing to the Fool, right?

... Maybe I'm overthinking it. But because this place is the way it is... [Velvet room adjacent and all] ... well, it's hard not to see the resemblance.
no subject
But what does it all mean?
[his Velvet Room didn't have a clock in it]
no subject
I feel like... I've seen a clock tower like this before. But... I can't remember where.
[damn u pq]
... Well. I'm sure we'll figure it out in time. It's good to keep in mind, at least.
no subject
Mmm. And to keep in mind as things continue to unfold.
[and out of the bush pops another zombie!! with a few friends!! these guys are bigger and more muscular than the ones they've been fighting thus far. perhaps they are also less squishy?]
[Akira squares his stance]
no subject
... Let's take them out.
[They could hurt someone else if they just avoid them!
So Minato, naturally, moves forward to engage the enemy.]
no subject
[. . .]
[if Minato notices, in between whacking zombies with his rake, Akira's breathing is getting a little heavier]
no subject
He bashes a zombie's arm clean off, whips the rake around, and knocks it back, buying himself some breathing room.
...]
Akira. You should take a breather. You're starting to overdo it.
no subject
Nah.

Akira? You okay?
no subject
[. . .]
[another exhale. Akira plays his fingers against the ground]
I'm fine. It caught me off guard-- that's all.
no subject
And as he does... he shoots Akira a faint frown.]
... After we take care of this, we're taking a break. A short one--but enough for a snack.
no subject
If I stop using my Personas. . . I'll be fine.
[he's just low on SP, that's all!! he's overdone it a little bit]
no subject
Yes, I'm sure.
We're taking a short break. And getting a snack.
no subject
Senpai is surprisingly authoritative. . .
no subject
[He swings the rake again, neatly slamming another zombie into the ground.]
--if you're too worn out. A break will help us help more people. And I don't want anything to happen to you, either.
no subject
[another laugh, and he tightens his grip on the gardening shears, mustering up the last bits of his energy to vault forward and drive the sharp end into the nearest zombie's face, right between the eyes]

What I wouldn't give for some good coffee right about now. . .
[IN THE MIDDLE OF A ZOMBIE INVASION??]
no subject
Then let's go make some.
[In the middle of a zombie invasion. He's casual about this.]
no subject
. . . are we sure the area is secure? That there's no one out there who needs our help?
[he doesn't like the idea of just, you know, heading inside and taking a break when someone might be in trouble? but then again, they still haven't met anyone else, so. . . it's probably fine?]
no subject
Will you be able to help people more after a cup of coffee?
no subject
[falls into step behind the other wild card, gaze still flicking around their surroundings, juuuust in case]
no subject
To the diner!!
For coffee!!
Though Minato can occasionally hear the shuffling of zombies, they don't actually encounter any more on the way. And as they get to the diner proper:]
How do you like your coffee?
